More developments

Not that this is any surprise, but Jayden continues to change and grow - sometimes it seems like daily!  No, we're still not crawling or scooting or pulling up or even thinking of moving in any way shape or form.  The most he'll do is reach for something to the point that he tips himself over.  Oh well.

What did change is his behavior in the bath.  We bathe him in this tub that has a stopper so that when he was little and couldn't sit up, he wouldn't slide down into the bath.  Well the past two baths, he's decided he's a big boy now and he doesn't need that stopper.  So he has been sitting up - and loving his bath toys too!  So of course, I took a photo and a video:

Jayden continues to talk up a storm - all throughout the mall yesterday (we checked out a bunch of furniture stores, trying to find things for the house) and through most of Costco today he was babbling.  Lots of "da-da-das" and "ahhhs."  It was pretty hilarious.  He continues to be a pretty happy baby, except for the fact that he has trouble napping.  On a typical day at daycare he sleeps 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours during the day.  At home on the weekends he typically sleeps 2-1/2 to 3 hours during the day.  Who knows what's going on with him.

One more picture - from when we were rug shopping yesterday.  We needed Jayden to test out the rug - he vetoed it, so we moved on...

Jayden also loves doing these funny things with his hands - he grabs his left wrist with his right hand and vice versa.  We're not sure what's going through his mind with this action, but it's kinda cute.

In what feels like a funny turn of events to me, I am going to lunch with one of my co-workers who is coming back from maternity leave in the next couple of weeks to talk to her about being a working mom with a husband who travels.  She said something about "because you're probably a pro at this now."  I wrote back "I don't think I'm a pro at anything related to motherhood, but I'll happily share my thoughts and experiences."  I don't know how many of you saw the Time magazine cover "Are you Mom enough?" with the woman who was breastfeeding her three-year-old, but it has caused all kinds of controversy and actually made me think a lot about what I consider being "mom enough."  My boss keeps saying things to me about how I just have to be "Super Mom" anytime I express any doubts.  I want to shout back "but I don't want to be SUPER mom, I just want to be mom!"  I don't think I should feel like I have to be super mom.  If I want to just be regular old mom, that should be enough.  If I can take care of Jayden, keep him happy, healthy and growing, that should be enough.  Why would you put pressure on moms to do everything, to be everything for everyone?  It's hard enough to not place your own ridiculously high expectations on yourself - but to have the rest of society tell you that you're not doing enough (or even just that you could always do more) can be overwhelming.

Any mother who blogs (including me, apparently) is blogging about this article.  One of my friends posted a great article, along the lines of what I wrote above: someone is "mom enough" if she takes care of her child, has hopes and dreams for her child and raises them to be the best child/adult they can be - who cares if she breast feeds until the kid is 5, or stops when the kid is one month or doesn't breastfeed at all; who cares if she uses cloth diapers or disposable diapers; who cares if she buys canned baby food, only uses organic food, makes all of her own baby food.  It's too much.  My response?  Being "just" a mom is wonderfully challenging enough.  So long as Jayden is the happiest, cutest, charming-est (yes, that's a word) baby ever - I've done my job, and yes, I am mom enough.
