Too good to wait

I seriously need to buy myself an audio recording device so I can record some of the conversations Jayden and I have on the way home.  I try not to just ask "how was your day," but instead ask more specific questions to get him talking.

Today, he was watching "Diego" when I got to Juju's.  I know nothing about this show and I don't think I'd even heard of it before today.  He seemed to really like the show, so I asked him about it.  He told me Diego was friends with the jaguars.  The jaguars are "reallllly nice" and are not scary at all.  So we talked about where we could see jaguars.  I said we could see them at the zoo.  At first he was okay with that, but then he said "No!  Mom, jaguars are not at the zoo.  They are in the other place.  Where Diego is."  We finally got it out that Diego lives in the jungle with the jaguars and that Diego and the jaguars were having a party.  Not a birthday party, just a party.  Jayden suggested that we travel to the jungle so we could have a party also.  I said, well, it's kind of hard to get to the jungle, it can take a while, we might have to go to South America, etc.  And he says, "yeah, I think we should go allll the way to Carolina!"  And then when Carmen called later, he told him we were going tomorrow.  So if you try to reach us tomorrow, we'll likely be on a plane to North Carolina to have a party with Diego and the jaguars in the jungle.

On the way home he also asked me if he could watch a show at home.  I told him, "no, I don't think so.  We only watch one show when we watch shows at home and you already got to watch shows at Juju's, so that was as much as you are getting to watch tonight."  He got whiny and tried to complain, saying he "neeeded" to watch another show, or he "realllly" wanted to watch another show.  I asked him why it was so important that he watch another show, or why he thought he should get to watch another show and he said "Because I'm a special kid and I should get to watch another show."  I couldn't help but cracking up.  He just comes up with the funniest things.

It has been an okay few days.  I'm definitely better than I was on Sunday, but my movement is so restricted and certain movements cause so much pain I have to gasp a little (or a lot).  Jayden and I have talked a lot about taking care of each other, how I take care of him, he's taking care of me, and we also take care of ourselves.  It's very sweet.  And he is being really helpful, in that he picks things up from the floor for me since leaning over and squatting (or really getting back up) are some of the worst movements for me, and he also is "being gentle" with me.

Monday was rough, since I was still in an immense amount of pain and Carmen went to the office for probably six hours.  Jayden and I made it through the grocery store, but as soon as we got home he wanted to ride bikes, play basketball and play soccer.  Of course.

Superman riding bikes.  Me getting out of the way as fast as I can!

"There is SO much clothes!"
(I recognize the grammar is wrong, but those are the words that came out of his mouth and accuracy is important)
Loading up the washing machine.

"I can't fit it all in Mom!"

Then Tuesday morning Carmen left the house around 5:30 am for a week-long trip to Mobile, Alabama and Phoenix, Arizona.  I was stressed to say the least, and I know he felt bad, but it's all about survival.  There will be very few baths this week (hopefully we get two in - we wipe clean the rest of the time, I promise) and accommodations will be made so that both of us are alive and are better off than we were a week ago when he gets home next Monday night.  That's the goal.

Putting away the trash can after the garbage truck emptied it.
He picked the outfit himself - tie-dye shirt, plaid shorts that are too small for him, bright orange jacket and super fast shoes.  We love the jacket, Auntie!

His dinner spread: pasta with things inside it (butternut squash agnolotti) with peas and carrots, regular cheerios, honey nut cheerios and a dinner roll.  Part of survival is not fighting over dinner and not making anything that requires more than boiling water and pouring pre-made sauce over the pasta.

Thank goodness for short weeks.  Two more days and it's the weekend!  And Friday Juju is closing early, so Jayden will come with me to clinic and then to my afternoon meeting.  I thought I was being smart by offering my house as the location of the meeting (a management meeting at my office).  Then I got home and realized that meant I had to clean up and arrange a space to meet.  And since I can only sort of walk and really can't bend over or squat, this was a terrible idea.  In the long run it's a good idea, but I'm going to hate myself tonight and tomorrow as I clean up to get ready.  Ah well.

Hope all of you are enjoying your short weeks, and are oh so happy that tomorrow is Thursday!!!
