A wild and crazy Saturday night

I am eating a donut a day late in honor of national donut day yesterday.  And watching a law and order rerun.  And probably going upstairs to bed in just a few minutes (it's 9:23 pm for anyone keeping track).

Carmen is in LA, the kids are asleep and I am dead tired.  So yup, that's my Saturday night.  And I'm not complaining.  I'm actually pretty much loving it.

The big excitement for my Friday is that Hillary Clinton was holding a community conversation event two doors down from my office.  The black vehicle on the right in this picture is Hillary's car.  I spent a lot of time not working on Friday afternoon waiting for her to arrive.  I'm not even a Hillary fan.  I think it was more an excuse not to work than anything.  It was a really rough week!

After Carmen left for LA and both kids got up from their naps, we went outside and painted on aluminum foil.  In this month's Hi-Five, the project was mixing tempera paint with dish soap to make sure the paint stuck to the foil - supposedly "shiny paintings."  Dakota had a hard time figuring out how to get the paint on the foil and not on her.  But luckily she only put the paintbrush in her mouth twice.  :)
Also, notice the balance. She's been standing up pretty much as often as she can.  She won't move her feet, but she is definitely practicing her balancing in preparation for walking.  Then she'll squat down, without putting her booty on the floor and then stand back up again.  Amazing.

AND.  This little girl has at least one ear infection and hand, foot and mouth.  She's on benadryl, antibiotics and motrin for pain/fever as necessary.  So not cool.  Supposedly she's good to go back to school on Monday, but we'll see.  As you'll see later, I really can't be home Monday morning so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

This is the face of a four year old jammin' to Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling.  We had a dance/clean up party after dinner, listening to JT's song on repeat.  It was awesome.
Also, I know all of you have busy things to do.  But if you're interested and available, one of my cases is being argued in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday at 9:30 am Pacific.  It is live streamed, so if you want to watch, go here:
http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/media/view_video.php?pk_vid=0000009702.

We're the last case on calendar (Rivera v. Orange County Probation Dept), so we'll probably be heard around 10 or 10:15, depending on how the two cases before us go.  This is the case I argued two years ago at the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel in the same courthouse.  We're in the bigger, fancier courtroom this time, and this is a case of first impression in the Ninth Circuit.  Our co-counsel from Snell & Wilmer is arguing - send lots of positive thoughts to Pasadena on Monday morning!

And if you're in the positive-vibes sending mood, send a few to Dakota too, to help her recover from this bout of discomfort.
