Seriously? March? Say wha?

Yeah, so time flies.  I last posted in mid-February and now it's March.  Yes February is a short month, but that's no excuse.  Since I have a night alone (Carmen left tonight and won't be back until Wednesday afternoon), I figured I'd finally catch up.

Jayden keeps growing and learning and surprising us.  He still says "uh-oh," but still not always at the right time.  Usually it's when he throws something, he then says "uh-oh," and looks at me with his palms raised.  Not exactly accurate.  But we're working on it.

He can say "stars" - it comes out a little more like "tarsss."  But it's great.  He can recognize the shape and then says the word.  We have stars projected on his ceiling every night at bedtime, which is how we think he learned it in the first place.  But he also has a bath toy that is a baby with stars on its diaper and something else today had stars on it.  I just love watching how proud of himself he is when he gets one of those words out.  We just may have eight words by his 18-month check-up!

He runs all over the place.  We have to tell him to slow down regularly.  Yesterday he went head first off the couch.  That wasn't so exciting.  He's a total daredevil - loves being flipped upside down and tossed around. He also loves to be outside.  He loves his shoes generally, but he especially loves that putting them on usually means that he's getting to go outside.

One thing we (and others) appreciate about Jayden is how well he listens.  He now walks in and out of daycare in the morning and evening.  Julia has a couple of steps outside and I have to close the door before we can go down the steps together.  I let Jayden walk out the door and then ask him to wait.  And he does.  And then we walk down the step together and go up and down on the curb a few times and then get into the car.  And  when Jayden knows he's doing something that's potentially not allowed, he always looks at us first to see if we're going to tell him no.  And Julia tells me that she only has to tell Jayden "no" once, whereas she has to tell the other boys his age at least a few times before they listen.  Obviously Julia appreciates Jayden's listening skills!

Hanging out with Daddy before daycare/work last week.  Shocking, Daddy is on a phone.
Jayden loooves himself some waffles.

Hanging out at lunch with Mama and Daddy yesterday.  Jayden ate an entire cheeseburger.  But really was not a fan of pickles.  I tried to capture the pickle face but missed it.  And couldn't trick him into taking another bite to get him to make the face again.

Agua!

Checking out the animals on the bench.  AND the bench was Jayden-sized!

Hanging out in his chair.  He's learning to love this chair, as a place to relax (for about 7 seconds) and a climbing toy.

Jayden throws a tantrum?  Mama takes a picture.
One more funny story to get a good start to the work week:
Last night Carmen and I went to a friend's 40th birthday party.  Katrina came over to babysit.  We had bathed Jayden early and gotten him in his pajamas since Katrina wasn't coming until 7 pm.  It was a little early to put him to bed, so we brought him downstairs to see Katrina and see if he wanted to play for a little bit.  He started running in circles around the couch/table, singing and throwing his arms in the air.  I kissed him on his cheek and Carmen said goodbye and we left quietly.  He wasn't even fazed.  Katrina said he just kept running his circles for about 5 minutes until he laid down on the floor by the stairs to the entryway and basically put himself to bed.  Hilarious.  Who knows where it came from, but it made it a whole lot easier for Carmen and me to leave.

  1. Was his pickle face kind of like Mama's wine face? I'm picturing a good shudder to go along with the face...

  2. It was totally Mama's wine face! And there was a shudder to go along. It was so great. I need to get a video camera necklace so that I always have a camera aimed at Jayden to capture these things.
