Jayden had his four year check up on Wednesday. We took him to the same doctor as Dakota, because their office is so much closer. He wasn't sure he wanted to go, but after the doctor checked him, he looked at me and said "Leigh, I think I like this doctor and it's okay if we come here again."
My guess is the real reason he liked the doctor is because they had a whole table of bead maxes in the exam room and he LOVES these things.
Then the nurse came in and gave him FOUR shots, two in each leg. He didn't say a word during the shots, just laid on the exam table and held my hands. Afterwards he got up and walked to the lobby with me. I bent down to make sure he was okay and he collapsed into my arms. The nurses were totally freaked out; they said they'd never seen a kid so quiet during shots before. I couldn't explain it, other than to say that's just Jayden. We got into the waiting room and he looked at me and said "Mommy, I don't think I like this doctor anymore!" I explained to him that no matter what doctor we went to, he would have had to get four shots, and then I had to explain why. He seemed to accept it, but he still wasn't happy about it. His legs were pretty sore the rest of the day, and he slept TERRIBLY that night (he and I were up together from about 1:30 to 3:30 am). Luckily Dakota slept fine until about 5 am. Carmen tried with her at 5 am, but to no avail, so then I was in her room from 5:30 or 6 until whenever Jayden woke up again (7 am maybe?). Thursday he was fine, so I think he recovered okay. Thursday night Dakota slept terrible (she woke up at 1 am, Carmen tried, but to no avail, so then I was in her room from 1:30ish until 3:30, and then again at 6:00 am). Needless to say I was a disaster by Friday.
Dakota has started doing two cute things: she pulls her own hair (see the second picture below) and she sucks her two fingers (her middle and ring finger). The finger sucking thing I'm not mad about, because she does it at night and it helps her sleep at night. So more power to her!
I went to lunch with a friend on Tuesday with Dakota wearing this outfit and about five people came up to me to tell me how cute Dakota was. One woman said "that is seriously the cutest baby I have EVER seen." It's so funny.
Pulling her own hair. Doesn't seem to bother her, funny enough.
Dakota also giggled for the first time. She's been laughing by opening her mouth and making one noise, but on Thursday she actually made a giggle sound. I couldn't quite capture it, but hopefully you get the idea. She laughs quite a bit, so I'll work on capturing it in another video.
MORE CUTENESS!
My sister's friend Jackie knows how to crochet (is a crochet-ist? what would I call her? I couldn't figure it out, so I'm going with "she knows how to crochet really good!") really well. She is also incredibly generous and sent some adorable stuff for the kids. I tried to take Jayden's penguin hat, but no such luck.
I can't even. LOVE the pink flower. As much as I try to avoid it, pink is really Dakota's color.
A little big, but considering how quickly he grows, it'll probably fit him by next month. :)
By this point Dakota was over being a hat model. But still cute, even when she's made.
Little baby legs and crochet shoes. I don't think it gets better than this!
We learned this week that Jayden's current swim teacher is leaving Blue Buoy, and his last day was last Saturday. I've talked to the swim school probably four times this week to try to figure out an alternate arrangement. They've cancelled our 10 am class because there is no teacher to take over. Today they had a sub - Mr. Johnny, the owner of the school - but next week they'll switch to a new time and a new teacher. They initially tried to split up Jayden and Maxwell, but his mom and I fought it out to keep them together. These boys would go crazy if they were split up. So now our lesson is at 9:40 with Mr. Ian. Hopefully this one lasts - but Ian has been there for a while now, so I'm hoping he doesn't go anywhere anytime soon. Honestly, it's so clear why Mr. Johnny is the owner - he has endless patience and excellent teaching techniques.
Jayden was doing "big arms" and hitting the water really hard. Mr. Johnny asked him if he was mat at the water! Mr. Johnny explained how to gently put his hands in the water when doing big arms, and the next time Jayden did it, his arms went beautifully into the water. It was awesome.
These two boys together can be a handful, but Mr. Johnny was so good with both of them. Afterwards he told us Jayden is an excellent swimmer and that he should consider water polo! I think he was impressed with his skill, but also with his long limbs. He's one of those kids who just has such natural athletic ability - at least so far - that as he gets older he's going to have to choose what he dedicates his time to the most.
Riding the "waves" into the shallow end. Jayden's balance has improved significantly as well. He's growing up so much too fast! (and my grammar/word choice is on point today, huh?!?)
Soccer was cancelled again for tomorrow - supposedly it starts next Sunday, but at an outdoor field. Carmen and I are so bummed. Indoors was hot, but at least it wasn't in the sun. Outdoors could be brutal if it stays in the 80s/90s for much longer. So, it means we'll have more time to relax or run errands tomorrow, depending on what we need to do to get ready for the trip. I've started getting things together for me, Jayden and Dakota. Only two more loads of laundry to go!
If I can get another post up before Tuesday, I will. Otherwise it will probably be next weekend before you hear anything significant from me again. I'll try to get a picture or two uploaded from my phone, but my Blogger app doesn't always cooperate with me. If anyone happens to be in Bear, Delaware on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, hit me up! ;)
