Happy Memorial Day!

We're all kinds of patriotic!
Hello!  We've had a good weekend so far - but are sooo grateful that we have an extra day tomorrow!

Yesterday we went to the zoo with one of my friends and her boyfriend.  We had a great time.  We went to a small zoo near us, the Santa Ana Zoo.  It was small enough that Jayden was able to run all over the place but big enough (and with enough odd animals) that none of the adults got bored.  It was perfect!

Ready to run as soon as we got in to the zoo.

An anteater!  They're so weird looking and have really gross tongues.

A bald eagle.  He was very elegant.

They had bubbles!  Jayden is a huge fan of bubbles, so of course I bought the bubble guns that they have.  Once our backyard is done, it will be perfect for both him and Jasmine to chase the bubbles all over the place.
My friends were very patient with us, because the pace of a 20 month old is not anywhere close to the pace of a normal adult.  But it was great to hang out and to spend a day in the sunshine.  All of us needed a nap afterwards, but the only person who got one was - you guessed it - the little man.

Today was another lazy day.  I got to go for a run and then we took off for the mall to see what we could get from the sales.  It actually wasn't crowded at all and, as usual, Jayden was great.  We managed to spend a whole lot of money either, which was also a good thing!

I have to say, the BEST thing about today was that Jayden actually peed in his potty chair!  It is actually a hilarious story and something I will certainly tell him over and over again as he gets older.  We were downstairs and Jayden said something about potty.  So of course I jumped on it and asked if he needed to potty.  He said yes and started heading upstairs.  I grabbed him and practically ran up the stairs.  I ripped off his diaper and sat him on the potty chair.  And then nothing.  We sat there.  He stood up, then sat down.  And still nothing.  And Carmen came upstairs and watched from afar.  And still nothing.  And then Jayden stood up and was telling us something and pointing and suddenly he starts peeing.  It's coming out sideways and all over his shirt and the floor.  I grab him and sit him on the potty seat and some actually makes it into the potty, thank goodness.  And then I make him sit there for about three minutes while we go get the paper towels, the floor cleaner, etc.  It wasn't a perfect first time, but it was at least a start.  And it definitely made Carmen and me laugh, which I guess is worth something.

Because it was Memorial Day weekend and Carmen and I were having "Mommy juice" and "Daddy juice" (aka homemade sangria), I let Jayden have a little bit of juice.  It consisted of half a cup of water and a splash of juice.  But he thought it was the greatest thing ever, mostly because he was drinking it out of a real cup.  He drank water out of the cup for the rest of the night.  And only spilled every other cup that he drank.

"Mah Joos!"

Happy toddler.
It was actually pretty impressive what a good job he did with the cup.  When he started spilling it was probably somewhat on purpose.  Anyways, all in all a good day and more to look forward to tomorrow.
